Dear Unit 4 Families:
It has been a week since we communicated with District families. We are committed to giving you periodic updates without over-communicating, since we know you are busy dealing with your own challenges. I am very proud of the way our Unit 4 Community is responding to the COVID-19 public health crisis. Below are a few important items as we move into next week.
District Administrators, teachers and staff have collaborated to provide remote learning during the closure. Teachers will be reaching out to their students early next week.
Hello Unit 4 Families:
I wanted to take a moment to check in with all of you as we reach the end of our first week of learning at home. I know this has been a stressful and emotional couple of weeks for everyone. I want to thank all of you for your continued patience and flexibility as we all work to navigate this together.
Unit 4’s priority during this time is to support our students and families socially, emotionally and academically. This week included:
Due to COVID-19 precautions, Unit 4's Board of Education meeting on Monday, March 23 will be conducted virtually
In person access will comply with CDC guidelines and state mandate for social distancing
In accordance with CDC guidelines and the State mandate to limit in-person attendance at public events due to the COVID-19 public health crisis, the Unit 4 Board of Education meeting on Monday, March 23, will be conducted virtually. The Board agenda will be limited to essential business items.
Dear Unit 4 Staff and Families:
On Friday, March 20, the Governor of Illinois mandated, due to the COVID-19 public health crisis, that all public and private schools remain closed until April 8. This closure includes all District events, practices, travel and activities. That means the new return to school date as of right now is April 8. However, please know this could change again.
This is the news we have been preparing for, and yet, I know it is news many of us hoped not to hear.
Dear Unit 4 Families:
As you are aware, the Governor has mandated the closure of Illinois schools from March 17 through March 30. Champaign Unit 4 is on spring break until March 20.
We want to take this time to let you know some important details of Unit 4’s plans going forward. This message is long, and it contains a lot of important information. I encourage you to read it all the way through.
Dear Unit 4 Community:
As we continue to navigate these uncertain times and follow the state-mandated school closure, the decision was made to close the District’s Windsor Administrative Building (beginning Tuesday, March 17) and Mellon Building (effective immediately) to the general public through March 30.
During this time, you may call (217) 351-3800 to reach the District with any questions and concerns you may have. Staff will monitor this line and its voicemails throughout each business day.
During the state mandated school closure, Champaign Unit 4 is working to create a food distribution plan for those 18 and younger and any individual participating in the Young Adult Program. They do not have to be a Unit 4 student to utilize this service.
In order to get an idea of the number of students who need these services during the closure, we are asking District families to fill out this form: https://forms.gle/FmtVcmziG4BGPyBx5

As situational risks related to health and the stability of travel continue to change quickly, Unit 4 made the decision to cancel District-sponsored and District-affiliated long distance, international trips as well as out-of-state, multi-day trips through March 23. If you are unsure of the status of your trip, please reach out to your group organizer.
